Srinagar, May 11 (KNO): A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant, who was a part of newly infiltrated militant group, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Srinder forest area of North Kashmir's Bandipora district on Wednesday even as another gunfight is raging in south Kashmir. A senior police officer told news agency-Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the first encounter broke out this afternoon after the army's 14RR and SOG of J&K police cordoned the Srinder forest belt of Bandipora district on a specific tip-off about the presence of militants there. As the security forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight in which one Lashkar militant was killed while the search for other two militants is in progress. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, including an AK-rifle, three AK magazines were recovered from the site of the encounter, the officer said. Kashmir Police Zone while quoting Inspector General of police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar informed that one militant killed. 01 AK rifle, 03 magazines recovered. The killed militant was a part of newly infiltrated militant group. Search for other 02 militants is in progress. Earlier, today security forces in the district have been put on a high alert following reports of fresh infiltration of militant in the Valley from across the Line of Control. Another official said that there are reports of fresh infiltration of over a group of militants into Kashmir from Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK) recently following which security forces including army and police are on patrolling as the alert has been sounded across the district. Barely half-an-hour after the Bandipora gunfight, another one began at Marhama village of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag where a joint team of forces cordoned off the area following inputs about the presence of militants. "As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight,” the officials said, adding that two militants are likely trapped in the village. However as of now no militant was killed in the operation which is going on in the area—(KNO)
